Why I like letting go more than surrendering

Words matter. Connotations go deep. Surrender has too much an air of giving up, to an enemy. Letting go simply implies releasing your hold on something — the way you might let a butterfly go — or the way you set a lizard free you’ve got in the palm of your hand.

You open your hand — you blow whatever is in your grasp softly away.

You let balloons go. You let thought bubbles flit off. You let your desires free, to go off, accrue mass and energy, and come back to you in some pleasantly surprising way.

So . . . when I need to release something, when I can’t see my way through a problem, when I’ve been holding on too tightly to a perceived way something must turn out . . . surrendering doesn’t cut it . . . not for me . . . it’s all about letting go . . .

For you
